Tickets are now on sale for the Broadway premiere of the musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda. The show begins previews at the Shubert Theatre on March 4, with opening night set for April 11.
Matilda stars four young actresses (Sophia Gennusa, Oona Laurence, Bailey Ryon and Milly Shapiro), who will share the title role. Original London cast member Bertie Carvel will reprishe his Olivier Award-winning performance as the evil Miss Trunchbull. Lesli Margherita portrays Miss Wormwood in a cast that also includes Gabriel Ebert as Mr. Wormwood, original London cast member Lauren Ward as Miss Honey, Karen Aldridge as Mrs. Phelps and Ted Wilson as Eric.
Directed by Matthew Warchus, Matilda is the story of an extraordinary little girl who decides that, despite a bad upbringing filled with rotten parents, a terrifying school and a vicious head mistress, her story is going to be an astonishing one. With the help of her teacher, friends and a little bit of imagination, Matilda proves that even if you’re little, you can do big things. The musical features a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.
The production includes choreography by Peter Darling, set and costumes by Rob Howell, lighting by Hugh Vanstone and sound by Simon Baker.
